For control panels that are not directly used in hazardous areas but have an immediate connection to such areas, special regulations from UL mostly must be observed when they are to be installed. The standard for the safety of control panels connected to hazardous locations is UL 698A.

To create or extend an intrinsically safe circuit, UL-listed barriers must be used in control panels connected to hazardous areas. Additionally, control drawings of the control panels are required to ensure proper connections on-site.

For Class I, II, and III

Zone 0, 1, 2, 20, 21 and 22

For hazardous locations according to Articles 500- 505 of the NEC, NFPA 70.
